Coding, Bounty and Protocols

I am terribly sorry for the delay in updating the site.

Moving on.

I had really hoped that a version of OurTunes could be released before the end of this semester. Seeing as most colleges are done or will be in the next two weeks that simply isn’t going to happen. Allow me to remind you that I am not a developer or programmer in any way but instead am trying to coordinate volunteers who work on this project. Over the last few months we have made progress, thanks largely to one talented individual who goes by the moniker of StopGo. In addition to that James S. has a program he is working on that is iTunes independent that shows great promise. That being said we need more developers, programmers and hackers to help out. For the rest of us there is really only one way to help. First and foremost we need to spread the word about this project in the hopes that more programmers will want to join. Donations will still be accepted but because of some people’s concerns the paypal donate button will no longer be on the front page of this site.

We have raised right at $1,100 so far ( I am using my own cash to even it out) and today I am opening up that to *anyone* who helps revive OurTunes. Some people are working for the pure challenge but I hope this bounty will increase the number of people working on this project. We currently need people with experience in working with Java, Python, Perl and Assembly (yeah, thats right, hardcore).

Contact SaveOurTunes [at] gmail [dot] com if you want to help. We also need people to help James on his program, currently dubbed trackshare.

I was recently contacted by the original creator of AppleRecords, one of the progenitors of OurTunes. He is working on a website, Open-Protocols.org to

eliminate the open source world’s constant tail chasing reverse engineering as we see with DAAP, and start really innovating and developing an ecosystem of protocols that software can freely use. The idea is that open-protocols is a low overhead method of creating protocols that might one day be adopted by an IETF charter.

A goal which SaveOurTunes and I stand behind.

Whew

Sorry for the delay in responding to all of you over the last week and a half. My family had a health crisis. More specifically one of my family members was thought to have cancer. Turns out that everything is going to be just fine but that made for one hell of a few days.
